Clarinetist Sarah Koop McCoy is an active performer and educator in New York City, making regular appearances with The Chelsea Symphony, the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, Camerata Notturna, One World Symphony, the Alpha Omega Ensemble, and more - with recent performances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Symphony Space, Merkin Hall, and the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. Sarah has also appeared as a featured clarinetist on the Emmy Award-winning Amazon Original series Mozart in the Jungle. A recent alumna from the Stony Brook University graduate program, Sarah was a member of the Contemporary Chamber Players and has held the principal clarinet position in the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Rossen Milanov, George Manahan, Jeff Milarsky, Glenn Cortese, and Jeffrey Meyer. Sarah earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Performance cum laude from Ithaca College in 2010, after completing a semester of study abroad at the Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppi Verdi” di Milano. She has also performed on an international scale, with solo and chamber music recitals in such venues as Casa Verdi in Milan, Italy, and the Françoys-Bernier Concert Hall in Saint-Irénée, Quebec, Canada as a member of the Domaine Forget International Music Academy.

An acclaimed soloist, Sarah won first prize in the Sewanee Summer Music Festival concerto competition with Alexander Manevich's Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, and has performed Aaron Copland's Concerto for Clarinet with The Chelsea Symphony. As a chamber musician, Sarah has worked closely with Simone Fontanelli, Gil Kalish, members of Windscape and the Emerson String Quartet. Committed to the development of new music, Sarah often premieres new works, and has worked hands-on in the compositional process with many up-and-coming prominent New York composers.

Equally passionate about education, Sarah maintains an expanding private clarinet studio on Long Island and in New York City, and has served as a chamber music coach at Stony Brook University and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. She is on faculty at the Long Island Conservatory and the Music Academy of Long Island, and has served as the woodwind and brass coach for InterSchool Orchestras of NY, where she stays involved as a Youth Orchestra Consultant. Sarah volunteers at the Center for Therapeutic Riding on the East End, where she teaches children and young adults with disabilities how to ride and care for horses, and has interned with Alternatives for Children, teaching general music to a class of Pre-Kindergarten aged students with varying degrees of autism.

Sarah’s principal clarinet instructors include Alan Kay, Michael Galván, and Luigi Magistrelli, with additional instruction from Larry Combs, Jonathan Cohler, Gregory Oakes, Robert Spring, Jon Manasse, and Ricardo Morales.
