Sarah Abrams is a New York City based flutist. In addition to flute and piccolo, Sarah doubles on multiple woodwind instruments. She currently freelances in the city in a wide array of ensembles, performing with various pit orchestras, institutions, and orchestras, including the Chelsea Symphony.

Sarah holds a Master of Music degree from New York University, where she studied with Keith Underwood and Soo-Kyung Park. She also holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied under Kathryn Lukas. Hailing from Marietta, Georgia, Sarah studied with Christina Smith, principal flutist of the Atlanta Symphony.

Sarah has a passion for teaching, shown through her dedication to her students in her studio, composed of both flute and piano students. Sarah’s commitment to the musical growth of others has extended to her involvement as a judge for young artist competitions, such as the recent New York Flute Club’s Young Musicians Competition, and her teaching in masterclasses. During her pursuit of her Master’s degree, Sarah was an Adjunct Instructor in Flute at NYU.

Chamber Music holds a special place in Sarah’s heart, driving her to form and perform with various groups. Examples include the New York Flutists, Sage Duo, and Prime Winds. Notably, Prime Winds’ performance of Hanns Eisler’s Divertimento for Wind Quintet Op. 4 has been featured in Eisler’s estate.

Sarah has had the pleasure of performing for a number of distinguished flutists including Jasmine Choi, Carl Hall, Michael Hasel, Thomas Robertello, Todd Skitch, and Yoobin Son. She has performed and participated in a number of masterclasses and festivals, such as the Aria International Summer Academy, Flutissimo, Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, Interlochen, and Summer Flute. Sarah has also attended and performed at three National Flute Association Conventions.
