Morton Cahn

Double Bass

Morton Cahn started playing the piano at age 8 and the bass at age 11. He studied at the New England Conservatory with Henry Portnoi, principal bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He freelanced in the New England area with such groups as Dinosaur Annex, Musica Viva, Banchetto Musicale, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, New Hampshire Symphony, Vermeer Quartet, and Emmanuel Music. Morton came to New York in 1982, where he received a Master’s degree in Computer Sciences at Polytechnic University and went on to work for Citibank and Bankers Trust. He is now employed as a programmer at Markit, a financial software house. In New York he has played for Orchestra of the Bronx, String Orchestra of Brooklyn, and Composer’s Collective.
