Megan Hilands
Megan Hilands is a Brooklyn-based violinist who regularly freelances throughout the greater New York City area. She has recently performed at venues such as Ars Nova, Symphony Space, and the DiMenna Center for Classical Music and with ensembles such as The Chelsea Symphony and Regina Opera Orchestra. As a lover of all things fiddle, one of her most meaningful experiences in the past year has been performing as the fiddler in East o’ West o’, a new musical mixing folk and bluegrass. Megan holds a Master of Music in violin performance from the Steinhardt School at New York University, where she studied with Cyrus Beroukhim. Previously, she received a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, in music and English from the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College, where her major teacher was Yeon-Su Kim. Megan also spent half a year studying in Vienna with Barbara Gorzynska of the Prayner Konservatorium—during this time she developed an enduring love of waltzes and opera (possibly due to three Euro standing room tickets).
When she is not making music you can find Megan working her day job in book publishing, training for her next road race, or spending time with her two bunnies.
