
Margaret Renton
Originally from Los Angeles, Margaret Renton is a violist and development professional based in New York City where she plays with numerous ensembles including the Chelsea Symphony, New York Repertory Orchestra, and Riverside Orchestra.
She has previously held principal positions with the Edinburgh University Music Society’s Symphony and Sinfonia orchestras and Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Universities of Scotland Symphony Orchestra, Colburn Youth Orchestra, Harvard-Westlake Symphony, Glendale Youth Orchestra, and Pasadena Youth Summer Chamber Orchestra. Performances have taken her across the US and Europe, sharing the stage with musicians from the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has also been heard on live radio broadcasts by KUSC as part of the Sundays Live series presented by LACMA. A dedicated chamber musician, she has also performed with ensembles including the Cadenza Quartet and others through the Ed and Mari Edelman Chamber Music Institute. Margaret is passionate about community engagement and has collaborated with nonprofits like Street Symphony, an organization dedicated to utilizing music to create opportunities of human connection to homeless and incarcerated communities through workshops, events, and one-on-one musical instruction, and PATH (People Assisting The Homeless). In addition to her pursuits on viola, Margaret is an avid choral singer and currently sings at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Margaret studied viola with John Hayhurst of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Colburn School and holds a degree in chemistry from the University of Edinburgh.
