Léa Bourgade is a New York City-based violinist who has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral violinist.

Born in Paris to French-American parents, she began playing the violin at the age of three and studied as a pre-college student at the Conservatoire Municipal Francis Poulenc. At age 10, she moved to San Francisco and studied under Bettina Mussumeli at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and, later, Robin Sharp at Stanford University.

Léa is an alumna of numerous musical festivals, including the Aspen Music

Festival, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and the Foulger International Music Festival. She has played for acclaimed violinists such as Stefan Jackiw, Noah Bendix-Balgley, and Kurt Sassmannshaus, and has performed in venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, San Francisco’s Herbst Theater, Mexico City’s Theatre and Palacio de Bellas Artes, and Paris’ Salle Pleyel. She is also the recipient of many awards including second prize at the Vatelot-Rampal International Violin Competition at age 8, first prize at Nova Vista Symphony Young Artists Competition, and first prize at Stanford’s Concerto Competition, among others. Currently, she is a member of the Chelsea Symphony and the String Orchestra of Brooklyn.

Léa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and a Certificate in Violin Performance from Stanford University, where she served as concertmaster of the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Philharmonia. She plays on an 1815 violin by Lorenzo Ventapane.
