Julian Gau
Julian Gau is a conductor active in Boston, Providence, and New York. He is the founder and music director of the Horizon Ensemble, a Boston-based orchestra that plays music by friends alongside works of history. He is also the music director of the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York, a semi-professional traditional Chinese orchestra. Currently, he is serving as music director for Cabaret for Brown University in Providence, as well as a double bill of two Baroque operas: Caldara's The Card Game and Bach's Coffee Cantata with the West End Lyric in Boston. Julian studied orchestral conducting with Bruce Hangen at the Boston Conservatory and music and math at Brown University. Recently he was an assistant conductor at Opera Saratoga and the New Music Conducting Fellow at the Composers Conference. In March 2024, he is set to music direct Katie: Strongest of the Strong with Opera Saratoga. In addition to conducting, Julian is also active as a pianist, cellist, and composer. He also enjoys books, noodles, and time with friends.
