Evan Wood is a New York City-based cellist and trombonist. Now in his eighth season with The Chelsea Symphony, he is also an active member of Camerata Notturna and frequently collaborates with chamber ensembles across the city.

Evan grew up outside of Boston in a remarkably musical household. Born to parents who play violin, viola, and piano, Evan and his identical twin brother were started on cello and violin at age five specifically to round out a family string quartet. With the later addition of a younger brother on piano and violin, the family grew into an interchangeable piano quartet. The 3 brothers then each went on to pick up the trombone, saxophone, and trumpet to expand their repertoire into jazz.

This dual-instrument path continued throughout Evan's life. He has won concerto competitions on both instruments, performing the Elgar Cello Concerto with the NEMC Faculty Orchestra in Maine and the Larsson Trombone Concerto with the Rivers Youth Symphony in Boston. His youth ensemble career was equally split: he served as principal trombonist for the All-National High School Orchestra, and later spent two seasons as a cellist with the National Youth Orchestra, touring the United States and China under conductors David Robertson and Charles Dutoit. He now serves as an alumni board member for Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra. While at Princeton University, Evan served as president of the Princeton University Orchestra and co-founded La Vie en Cello, the university’s all-cello ensemble, which continues to thrive nearly a decade later.

Balancing his musical life with a career in technology, Evan currently works as a Product Manager at Stripe. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in Operations Research and Financial Engineering.
