Violinist Deborah Nixon is an active freelancer and educator currently based in New York City. A keen ensemble player, she has performed in various ensembles in the area, including the Bronx Opera, Mimesis Ensemble, and The Chelsea Symphony, with which she appeared as soloist in 2015. Also a dedicated educator, she is on faculty at several schools in the NYC area and maintains a private studio.

Originally from Peoria, Illinois, Deborah began studying the violin at age four. She earned a Master of Music in solo performance from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, England and a Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance, magna cum laude with a minor in British Literature at the New York University Steinhardt School. While at the RNCM, she enjoyed performing in the 2013 RNCM Chamber Music Festival and the RNCM Friday Chamber Series in collaboration with the late Peter Cropper (The Lindsay String Quartet), as well as performing in the RNCM Orchestra for its residency in the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano, Italy. She also performed in solo masterclasses for Gérard Poulet, Yair Kless, Gina McCormack, Pavel Fischer, and Leland Chen. Summer studies have included the Aspen Music Festival and the Künstlerhaus Boswil (Switzerland). Her principal teachers have included James Clark and Naoko Tanaka.

Outside of music she enjoys reading, hiking, and running.
