Alice Bacon

Cello

Alice Bacon is a versatile and inventive cellist who works within a wide spectrum of musical styles. As a classical artist, she has performed on four continents and throughout the US, at venues including Carnegie Hall, Zellerbach Hall, The Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA; among others. She is currently a member of The Chelsea Symphony of NYC.

Alice has eclectic musical interest; in addition to her studies in classical performance, she has recorded and performed with rock, folk, pop, jazz, and soul musicians including Paul Simon, The Eagles, James Tillman, Emanuel & the Fear, and Michel Reis in New York at venues including The Beacon Theatre, Town Hall, the Blue Note, Le Poisson Rouge, The Box, Rockwood Music Hall, and Gramercy Theatre. She has premiered and recorded new compositions by jazz composers, accompanied dancers and aerial artists with free improvisation, and plays live music at Yoga Vida yoga studio in downtown New York. Alice was principal pit cellist in The Gallery Players production of Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music. This fall Alice was featured in the orchestra of the upcoming Amazon Prime series Mozart in the Jungle.

Alice earned both her Master of Music (2013) and Bachelor of Music (2010) with a double major in Cello Performance and Romance Languages, from New York University's Steinhardt School, where she studied with Professor Marion Feldman. For the past two years she served as an adjunct cello professor at NYUSteinhardt.

Alice Bacon began playing cello in the public school music program of her hometown, Berkeley, California. In high school Ms. Bacon studied with the renowned Milly Rosner, played with the Oakland Youth Orchestra and was co-principal of the Young People’s Symphony Orchestra of Berkeley.

Alice Bacon plays on two instruments: a 19th century french cello, and a remarkable aluminum cello from the mid-20th century.http://www.celloalice.com/
