American Aria
The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, 450 West 37th Street
This special, one-night-only performance explores contemporary American works for soloist and orchestra. The program features the world premiere of the orchestral version of 27-72 by Alyssa Morris, one of the most compelling musicians writing for the oboe today. John Corigliano’s Poem in October is an “unabashedly lyrical” setting of a text by Dylan Thomas. Amanda Harberg’s Piccolo Concerto has been praised by Yannick Nézet-Séguin as “an extraordinary addition” to the solo repertoire for that instrument. Miguel del Aguila’s Broken Rondo is by turns nostalgic and dramatic. A new work by TCS Resident Composer Aaron Dai rounds out the program.
