Enjoy this holiday season with The Chelsea Symphony’s December concert series. Opening with the prelude from Humperdinck’s classic opera, Hänsel und Gretel, this concert features exciting seasonal favorites. Phong Ta will show us the orchestral adaptation of an ancient legend with He Zhanhao and Chen Gang’s The Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto, written in traditional pentatonic style featuring Chinese melodies and patterns. Melanie Chirignan will bring Griffes’ Poem for Flute and Orchestra to life with its lush melodies and exciting technique. The concert will end with the holiday classics Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson featuring a surprise guest conductor, and The Night Before Christmas by Aaron Dai with our special guest narrator, Seth Rudetsky!

Tickets will be available at the door for a suggested donation of $20.

Melanie Chirignan, a native of Hauppauge, NY, is a flautist known for her musicality and versatility of repertoire. She earned her Bachelor’s in Music Performance and Music Education graduating magna cum laude from SUNY Fredonia, and her Master’s Degree in Flute Performance at the Hartt School. She has studied with Dr. Susan Royal and Janet Arms.

Phong is grateful to be returning this season as a soloist with The Chelsea Symphony in Oliver Davis’ Flight – Concerto for Violin and Strings.
