American Museum of Natural History, Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life

TCS is thrilled to present the Pulitzer and Grammy Award-winning piece Become Ocean by American composer John Luther Adams in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History. Commissioned by the Seattle Symphony and premiered in 2013, this single movement work was inspired by the oceans of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

From a note in the score: "Life on this earth first emerged from the sea. As the polar ice melts and sea level rises, we humans find ourselves facing the prospect that once again we may quite literally become ocean."

Scientists from the museum will present complementary educational dialogue in conjunction with our conductors and composers.

In conjunction with this special performance, TCS will perform Alan Hovhaness' And God Created Great Whales and the world premiere of TCS composer Michael Boyman's world premiere piece, The Howling Wilderness.

The concert will be held at the American Museum of Natural History in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life
Central Park West at 79th Street

Admission to the concert will be included with museum admission for the day
