Originally from East Lyme, CT, Stephen Lyons is a performer and educator who has enjoyed playing frequently in the past several seasons with the Chelsea Symphony. He teaches around Putnam County, CT as a brass instructor and serves as the music theory teacher, theater sound designer, and band director for all grade levels at Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury. He is in demand as a movement and music instructor for drum and bugle corps, winter percussion programs, and marching bands.
He holds an M.M. in trumpet performance along with a Performer's Certificate in chamber music from the University of Connecticut, where he studied with Louis Hanzlik. Steve plays as an extra trumpet with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra (MA) and as a lead trumpet with Time and Changes Jazz Orchestra (Niantic, CT) and soul-funk group Bank Street Groove (New London, CT).
In addition to music, Steve is enthusiastic about traveling, the National Basketball Association, and drinking all of your India Pale Ales. He lives in Milford, CT with some fluffy cats and his beautiful and incredibly indulgent fiancee, Krista.
